A few weeks ago, I made up a list of some amazing body positive plus-size models and I was incredibly remiss in not including the lovely Tara Lynn. There is no right nor wrong way to exist. As Carrie Murphy from The Gloss, so aptly put it :. Yes, the fashion industry—and the media as a whole—should be working towards more inclusive depictions of a range of shapes, sizes, and skin colors in both editorials and advertisements. Unfortunately, the cover, which features a gorgeous and provocatively dressed Tara, appears to be heavily photoshopped and the digital retouching has already been called out by multiple bloggers and media personalities. Regardless of the politics, Tara does look absolutely gorgeous in every single image.
Well, this is news that makes us grimace: Plus-size model Tara Lynn said she understands why skinny is the standard for most designers. Lynn elaborated that the industry is showing signs of adjustment in its attitude towards larger bodies, saying that there has "been change in acceptance of plus-size models," and cites plus-size model Crystal Renn as proof of the trend. But Lynn remains skeptical that plus-size models need to be represented in fashion, and says that she understands why designers tend towards "using a standard, clothes hanger-skinny body" in their campaigns. Tara Lynn's commentary on plus-size modeling comes as a surprise in light of the recent trend towards featuring realistic silhouettes in stores and on the runway.
